Traditional Aikido in Milton Keynes – open to all levels

Milton Keynes Aikikai is a dedicated Aikido dojo offering traditional training in a welcoming and disciplined environment. We are part of the wider Aikikai organisation, connected to the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan, and recognised through the UKA Association.

We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds, whether you are completely new to martial arts or have previous experience.

About our dojo

Our club is a non-profit organisation focused on the practice and development of Aikido. Training is centred on traditional principles and personal development rather than competition.

We aim to provide a supportive environment where students can improve at their own pace, developing both physical ability and personal awareness through regular practice.

What is Aikido training like?

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art focused on movement, balance, and control rather than strength or aggression.

Training involves:

  • Learning fundamental movements and techniques
  • Practising safe falling and rolling
  • Partner-based drills
  • Developing coordination, awareness, and timing

Training can be physically engaging and sometimes challenging, especially at first, but all students are guided carefully and progress gradually. The more you train, the faster you will gain fitness, awareness, and confidence. New students should plan on that.

Your first class

If you are new, your first session will be simple and structured.

You will:

  • Be introduced to basic movements
  • Work at a comfortable pace
  • Be paired with experienced students or instructors
  • Be supported throughout the class

No previous experience is required, and beginners are always welcome.

We recommend comfortable clothing for your first session. Further guidance will be provided when you arrive.

Instruction

Training is led by experienced instructors who have trained extensively with world class teachers, both nationally and internationally.

Our teaching focuses on:

  • Clear, structured progression
  • Safe and practical training methods
  • Respect for traditional Aikido principles

You will always be guided according to your level and experience.

Who can join?

We welcome:

  • Complete beginners
  • People returning to physical activity
  • Adults of all ages
  • Young people (junior training is available)

Aikido does not rely on strength or speed, making it accessible to a wide range of people.

Dues

Dues, are not payment for instruction, that is and always will be given free of charge.  They are a regular contribution to the continuation and upkeep of the dojo. We have a dedicated space for our practice, this is not the norm, and we are the only aikido dojo in Milton Keynes with our own dedicated space. This takes not just the effort of the head instructor, but all of the members to maintain and keep up. Your monthly dues are your way of ensuring that we can continue to train and grow to be a full time dojo.

We offer financial assistance to those that wish to train but cannot afford the monthly dues. We have various different programs available, please contact us to discuss the best program for you.

The monthly dues for an Adult membership is:

£50

The annual insurance for practice is provided by the UKA through the JAC, and is:

£20 for a junior membership
